Our Story

Prismlark Financial School grew from a simple observation: most people never receive proper financial education, and that gap shapes their entire relationship with money.

Founded in Manchester in 2012, we started with weekend workshops for teenagers whose parents wanted them better prepared for financial independence. The response was immediate and overwhelming. Parents asked if we had programmes for younger siblings. Then they asked if we had courses for themselves.

Today, Prismlark serves learners from age seven through retirement. Our curriculum spans pocket money basics to investment portfolio theory, always with the same core principle: practical application beats abstract theory.

What sets us apart is our refusal to treat financial education as dry or intimidating. Money is a tool, and like any tool, it works better when you understand how to use it. Our instructors bring real industry experience to the classroom, translating complex concepts into understandable, actionable knowledge.

Our Teaching Philosophy

We believe financial literacy is a life skill that should be taught the same way we teach other essential skills: through practice, repetition, and real-world application.

Each of our courses is built around scenarios students will actually encounter. For children, that means pocket money decisions and saving for something they want. For teenagers, it means managing income from part-time work. For adults, it means household budgets, debt management, and planning for the future.

We avoid jargon unless students need it to navigate real financial products. When technical terms are necessary, we ensure students understand not just what they mean, but when and why they matter.

Assessment in our courses focuses on practical competence, not memorisation. Can the student create a realistic budget? Can they explain compound interest to someone else? Can they identify when a financial product might be appropriate for their situation?

What Guides Our Work

The principles that shape every course we design and every class we teach

Accessibility

Financial education should not be reserved for those already comfortable with money. We structure our fees and scheduling to reach families across different circumstances.

Practicality

Theory without application is quickly forgotten. Every session includes exercises where students work with real or realistic numbers relevant to their lives.

Honesty

We do not promise financial transformation or wealth. We teach skills and knowledge. What students do with that education is up to them.

Respect

Every student arrives with their own financial situation and history. We teach without judgement, meeting learners where they are.

Our Team

Our instructors combine academic knowledge with years of practical experience in banking, investment management, financial planning, and education. This dual expertise means students learn not just what the textbooks say, but how finance actually works in practice.

Every instructor undergoes training in our teaching methodology before leading a class. We believe subject expertise is necessary but not sufficient. Communicating complex ideas clearly, adapting to different learning speeds, and creating an engaging classroom environment are skills that require deliberate development.

Beyond formal qualifications, we look for instructors who genuinely enjoy teaching and who remember what it was like to be confused by financial concepts. That empathy shapes how they explain ideas and respond to questions.

Our teaching space in central Manchester was designed specifically for financial education. Bright, modern classrooms are equipped with the technology needed for interactive lessons, from budgeting software to stock market simulations.

For younger learners, we have dedicated spaces with age-appropriate materials, including physical money handling activities that make abstract concepts tangible. Our teen and adult classrooms mirror professional training environments.

The building is fully accessible, with lift access to all floors, accessible facilities, and hearing loop systems in each classroom. We are committed to ensuring financial education is available to everyone.

Located just a short walk from Piccadilly Station, our premises are easily reachable by public transport from across Greater Manchester and beyond. Nearby parking is available for those who drive.
